The other day in the States it was Thanksgiving, a purely American celebration linked to their history.

In my case, being only with my daughter this year, DH is on a trip and my son is studying in Paris, I decided to make a miniature Thanksgiving meal. 2 little chickens (close to our Cornish Game Hens) roasted and glazed with a blueberry jam and orange juice, chestnuts with bacon, glazed yams and of course homemade cranberry sauce made with European cranberries ( a smaller variety closer to redcurrants).

I found these 2 pictures for you :

I just finished knitting myself the fabulous "Juliet" from Zephyr Style that has been knitted this way  or like this by VeroM  (scroll down her pages to see the photos) or again on the Sexy Knitters Club blog where we can see many different interpretations of Zephyr Style models and other designers as well, but ZS are the fad of the moment !!!!

So, your asking yourselves, and what about her floorcloth????? Well, here it is :

or here (thanks DH):

DSCF2170.JPG

OK I made it 3 times too big (even though I followed the instructions for my size bust)... It's nothing like the girls on the original model ..... Here I really look like a pumpkin (in French Potiron) - a blue one, but pumpkin all the same!!!!!!!!

Note : the yarn I used is Phildar Canasta in Caraïbes, I had a stash of 10 skeins that I had gotten during spring sales, and I had to add 3 more skeins as I knitted with two strands in order to have the correct gauge. And I used a bamboo circular needle in French size 6.

I ordered myself another model, "Wicked" but now I'm seriously hesitating in doing it.... and "Tree Jacket" is tempting me too, but I didn't even order that one....... too much of a scaredy cat.....

PS Personal note: Joelle, look, I'm wearing it!!!!!! How about you???

Addenda on November 25th : Since I posted this article, I did buy Tree jacket, and I've started a new Juliet this time for my daughter in size XS and I will try to do long sleeves on it..... I began last night and am almost finished with the top part....

I do plan to do Wicked and Tree Jacket, I've started shopping around for yarn and doing gauge swatches.... More soon on this habit I've gotten into.....

The other day I went to the new "mediathèque" (library that lends cds, dvd, as well as books and magazines and newspapers) in Chartres, and while going through their CDs, I fell upon a CD which cover seemed really nice, in colors I particularly like. I turn it over and the titles are in English and in French. I told myself with a name like that, she probably was from Louisiana, so cajun music, so happy, so let's take it.... But whom am I talking about ?????

bjscott-cutandrun.jpg

This CD is a Live, and it's more rythm&blues than cajun, with nice rock sounds, as well as some funk... She has  incredible energy.
I simply love it, and I think I'm going to be listening to the 2 CDs continuously until I have to give them back!!!
A few links :
  wat.tv  and her website.

PS:  For your info, I also borrowed Roger Plant's (Led Zep) last CD (2205), but I haven't listened to it yet.

CHALLENGE FOR LE BURKINA FASO

When I got back from my vacation in the States, I saw this  post on the  FRANCE PATCHWORK forum.  I arrived too late to be chosen for the "first line", so I'm in the "second line". That is to say that a person from the "first line" gets the fabric for the challenge, in this case beautiful true Indian Cashmere, creates her top - it must measure 1m x 1m max (roughly a square yard)- and then sends it to the person in "second line" to whom she has been buddied up with.

Considering that it takes time to create a top, and that the packages of fabric were sent at the end of september, I didn't think about it much even though I had received some little swatches.....

I can assure you that I was totally intrigued this morning when I discovered the package, I had no idea who this person who had written me was - I had blanked out my buddy's name - and I was wondering who could have sent me a package.... And what a surprise it was for me when this morning, I found this :

I first took everything out and put them randomly on the table to have an idea of the whole.....

Then I sorted them :

Aren't they beautiful ???

I'm happy because these days I've been in a creative slump, really, since I got back from our vacation, I've practically not done anything with my 10 fingers if not these 3 cups for some friends :

and this necklace :

I think this new project is going to give me that little kick I need to finally get to work!!!!!

What is good, is that I have time, and I'm going to need it because I'm pretty slow when it comes down to it!!!!!

Speak to you soon for the next installment of my adventures with this challenge !!!!!!!

While visiting MTSA's blog,  I learned that it was "La Foire aux Potirons"  (i.e. Pumpkin Celebration) (Note : Potiron, my pseudonym in French means pumpkin). It is happening HERE.

But since it's a bit far from where I live, I still wanted to go see pumpkins. So, this afternoon I went to one of those places where you can go pick apples, pears, all kinds of vegetables and fruit, and flowers, there is one near my house; and this is what I found :

Already as we arrived this was waiting for us :

My favorite, potimarrons (I don't know what they are called in English, but their meat is dense and tastes a bit like chestnuts), I find them real tasty :

There were also some coloquinths (spelling???) :

Met a little friend :

Saw some other varieties :

Last time I left you with the first two sites in Arches, Windows and Double Arch.

We then proceeded to the visit of Broken Arch via Sand Dune Arch. It was getting hot and my daughter was still under the effects of jetlag, so we left the kids in the car with the AC, yes, I know, but it was that or a heat stroke!!! There wasn't any shade anywhere!!!

So, here we are, my Darling and I with our hats, our bottles of water, and our cameras for a nice walk towards Broken Arch. First we stop off at Sand Dune Arch :

I only have one picture to show you as the sun was too high up to make nice photos. There is among other things a tree with interesting shapes just before entering here, but our pictures weren't good..... yes, these things to happen!!!!

We then went on our little walk towards Broken Arch. A really nice walk on a nice landscape... to get here :

I sat down under this arch where there was a nice breeze while my Darling took photos. The walk continues on for some miles, but we decided to go back the way we came. My Darling thought my face was quite hot.... Of course, I was hot!!!!!!

Actually I had the beginnings of a heat stroke!!! even though I drank a lot and I didn't exert myself too much....., believe me!!!

We then had lunch at the Hacienda, a nice little tex mex restaurant then rested at the hotel. I actually took a nap to get over my heat exhaustion....

At the end of the day, around 6 P.M., we returned to Arches so that this time my Darling and our son could do Park Avenue, I simply wasn't up to it. A few pictures:

This nice walk took them about and hour to do while taking lots of pictures.... But we didn't stop there, oh no!!! The temperature was now quite enjoyable and the light was getting great, so we went on to Balanced Rock :

We walked around it, then went off to picnic for dinner with this as our view :

Pretty Awesome, right????

But it was starting to thunder so we started off back to the hotel. On the way, there was a lightning storm :

All in all a great fun filled day!!!! We are still so in love with this Natural Park, we were there a first time in 2004, but we could still return there!!!!

In fact, the visit is not over, the next day we returned to Arches, but I'll tell you about it some other time!!! Stay tuned!!!!
