I've continued working on my bag which is the ongoing piece I'm doing for the January TIFC.

However, I've decided to officially name the following square to my bag as the official contribution to the January TIFC.

What do you think?????
I used naturally dyed silk ribbon by Marie Foyer (les soies de Marie), organza ribbon by Mokuba, an organdi ribbon I had, and the stamen and the French knots are in Silk'n"Colors by the Thread Gatherer. I also used a few Mill Hill seed beadds ....

Here is the layout as it is now. I might move the squares around a bit once all of them will have been embellished.

Sorry for the messy picture, the light is going down rapidly and the flash isn't working right.....

Here are a few close-ups of some squares, some of them are not finished, I need to think about how I'll continue them.

And one more week to go until the next TIFC concept(s) .....  !!!!!!

Or should I say fabric?????

Here I am thinking and thinking about the TIF challenge, and so far I have not much to show for it.   I have decided that to work on something about someone I admire, one month is not enough, so I am keeping this concept in mind for another work to do when it will be mature enough in my mind for it to be transmitted to my hands.

As I said in my previous  posting, when I made that bag for my sister-in-law, I had previously cut out pieces of felt to make myself a bag. So, I have begun to work on it, and lo and behold, it so happens that it's sort of in the color scheme proposed for January.  Although it is not being worked on with as much concentration and inspiration as the one for my sister in law was, I have done a few things on it, and I also have undone some.

The color scheme for the January TIFC is more pastel than my project, but I hope it will be accepted anyhow.

Here are the first pictures of what has been done so far:

A layout of the cut squares.  The bag is to go with an outfit I got for my birhday beginning of december. This is the starting point for the bag. And the theme is to be flowers to go with the quilting of the jacket (on the left).

A hodgepodge of trial of threads and other materials that might make the grade..... A big mess!!!!!

And now a few shots of various squares done or in the process of being done :

There's a little more, but I decided to keep the suspense going, after all, I still have a little over a week to go!!!!!!

In this my first article for 2008, I wanted to wish you all a great creative year filled with love and laughter and creative imagination all over!!!!!

Here is my first installment concerning the TIF challenge (see my article "I've done gone crazy").  On January  1st, Sharon gave us the first concept to work on.  Here I quote Sharon :

The key concept for January is a feeling we have all had, the feeling of admiration for another. Ask yourself who do you look up to and admire? Why? What is it you admire about them? This is a the first Take it Further challenge in 2008. Take the idea, develop it into a resolved design during that month and apply it to fiber or paper.

As I explained on the Take it Further Challenge page every month there will be two options. The second option this month is a colour scheme. This means that if you don’t like the concept you can work the colour scheme or if you don’t like the colour scheme you can work with the concept. Or you can work with both.

The colour scheme for this month is below. I came up with it by using ColourLovers If you have not seen this site before and love colour do check it out as there is lots of fun to be had over there.

As promised I have a flickr group set up as well. The flickr group for the Take it Further Design Challenge is here

Now why have I titled this article with ESP, you might wonder???? Well, you know how I've been complaining about not being very creative since this autumn... I've been in the duldrums, and so I've given myself work to do to stimulate myself and this TIF challenge is one of them.  Well, on the 26th, I began cutting up some felt squares to make myself this bag from The Cinnamon Patch, to go with a new outfit I have in green and purple. As I was cutting my squares I began thinking about my sister-in-law, person I was going to see on the 29th for a few days. Well, Christine is the person Sharon describes for the new concept. I've always admired her and looked up to her, she has helped me through my hardest hardships I've had to cross, and she's shown me over and over her courage to face and fight her own.  AND it's because of her I've thrown myself into textile art for lack of better expression rather than redoing patterns for traditional patchwork or cross-stitch.

OK, so here I am cutting up the squares for my bag, when I think to myself, what if I made one for Christine???? It should be simple and quick enough.....  With the intention of making the bag from the book as is more or less but in a blue color scheme, I search through my felt stash, find some black felt and begin cutting and cutting. Note this is after having cut the squares for my own bag.....

And I begin, but as I'm trying to figure out how to place the different blues, all these ideas come to mind and from a rather simple pattern, it has become a bag of different squares, no two alike and not at all in the country style the cinnamon patch intended, not at all!!!!!!  The pictures are not very good.... I did them almost as an after-thought and very quickly without any time for nice photography.

Another side of it

I suddenly realized I had a flash on my camera!!!

DSCF2211.JPG

This is one bottom of it.

That's all for the pictures of this bag which I made from about 4 or 5PM on the 26th and finished on the evening of the 28th....  And at the same time I made a gingerbread (on the 28th), did some last minute Xmas shopping, (well new years shopping if you prefer!!), packed and cleaned up the house......  I did a lot of machine work, but I did manage some hand embroidery and beading.  She seemed to really like it, so I'm happy and proud..... Have you ever had this feeling when it all came to you and you couldn't help yourself but do it as it came, like under a spell.... This is what happened here.

Now for the TIF challenge.

Well the concept if found. The person at least. What I'll do with it remains to be seen.  For the time being, I'm noting down everything I feel about her, her qualities, and such and images I associate with her, of moments with her that were special and that come to mind.... Now how I'm going to transpose it, is another matter. So this is where I'm up to now. I also don't know if I'll use the color scheme as well or not, because there are colors I associate with her (blues....) already, but who knows where inspiration will lead me.

Thank you Sharon for the initiative and it does feel weird this concept you came up with and the quick improvised project I came up with which links up to your concept.

And thank you readers for putting up with all this writing. Hope your eyes are not too blurry and that you're not too bored!!!!!!

Happy projects!!!!!

I hope you've all had a nice Christmas and that Santa has spoiled you once again!!!!  And especially that you were able to share some precious moments with those you love, and that you had a bundle of laughs !!!!!

I really wanted to say hi today with a little video found on Youtube with images of the infamous Christmas cartoon I grew up with (among others) and that I still love as much (and I don't like the film version with Jim Carey, only the original !!!! There!!!)

Enjoy !!!!

Or have I?????

Feeling very frustrated with myself and with life in general, I've really missed not being creative. By meaning creative I don't mean not doing anything with my hands, I have been knitting recently, and doing some odds and ends, but, not a deep-thought process work. Something that comes from inside....

Well, I've gone and done it this week, I've promised two things: First I offered to PIF (pay if forward) on my French blog, where I promise in the next year I will make something for 3 people who themselves promise to do the same thing on their blog. We have 365 days to do something. So far not many people have answered, so I will include whomever posts here as well and combine from both. The first three who post in my comments page as well as in their blog!!!!!  Do not expect anything exceptional, just a little something from the heart.

The other biggie, and here I mean really biggie, is I've registered for the Take it Further Challenge proposed by Sharon B on her blog In a minute ago.

Every month beginning January 1st 2008 she will propose a concept and a color scheme and up to us to work on either or both for the month, showing our progress on our blog. I'll be using this blog to show the works in progress, and sometimes I'll do so as well on the French one, since some French artists will be doing it too I saw.  I'm hoping this will get me going.  I've been really doing a lot of reading on all sorts of techniques, and so many appeal to me. I hope I'll be able to put them into focus with these exercises, and I hope I'll be able to follow through.  What is great with this challenge also, is a lot of thought will be put into everything, and there should be exchanges with artists, many as I've seen so far in the links provided do interesting things. That is really stimulating.

A third project I've involved myself in  is the one mentioned in an earlier post , a challeng for Burkina Faso, and for which I've still not done anything, but have been thinking about it.....  Ideas move around in my head a lot and then one day it all comes through on cloth.  I never or hardly ever do any sketching as I draw as with my feet, and so cannot progress that way. So, lots of trial and error and a lot of undoing...... One of the reasons I'm so slow!!!!

OK , hope this hasn't been too tiresome to read!!! Will try to post more often. Hope more readers come here as well.

All my best

I've been wondering about my "floorcloth" (see my before-last article). I've worn it a few times, and I am literally swimming in it!!!! What to do??? Do I unravel it and re-knit it in a smaller size?  or do I leave it as is and live with it??? Note it isn't very long to knit (if you don't make mistakes), but I knitted it using two plys of yarn (to fit the gauge), should I expect large amounts of knots??

WHAT WOULD YOU DO??????????

Maybe some of you have already decorated your house in a Christmassy theme.... We haven't yet. In our family two of us are celebrating our birthdays in December, and usually I prefer to  put up the tree afterwards, that way we don't mix the special birthday days and Christmas.....

But today I saw today's Garfield, and he has a nice decoration technique :

Thank you Garfield....

Samedi 24 novembre 2007 6 24 /11 /Nov /2007 10:00

The other day in the States it was Thanksgiving, a purely American celebration linked to their history.

In my case, being only with my daughter this year, DH is on a trip and my son is studying in Paris, I decided to make a miniature Thanksgiving meal. 2 little chickens (close to our Cornish Game Hens) roasted and glazed with a blueberry jam and orange juice, chestnuts with bacon, glazed yams and of course homemade cranberry sauce made with European cranberries ( a smaller variety closer to redcurrants).

I found these 2 pictures for you :

I just finished knitting myself the fabulous "Juliet" from Zephyr Style that has been knitted this way  or like this by VeroM  (scroll down her pages to see the photos) or again on the Sexy Knitters Club blog where we can see many different interpretations of Zephyr Style models and other designers as well, but ZS are the fad of the moment !!!!

So, your asking yourselves, and what about her floorcloth????? Well, here it is :

DSCF2169.JPG (autoportrait)

or here (thanks DH):

DSCF2170.JPG

OK I made it 3 times too big (even though I followed the instructions for my size bust)... It's nothing like the girls on the original model ..... Here I really look like a pumpkin (in French Potiron) - a blue one, but pumpkin all the same!!!!!!!!

Note : the yarn I used is Phildar Canasta in Caraïbes, I had a stash of 10 skeins that I had gotten during spring sales, and I had to add 3 more skeins as I knitted with two strands in order to have the correct gauge. And I used a bamboo circular needle in French size 6.

I ordered myself another model, "Wicked" but now I'm seriously hesitating in doing it.... and "Tree Jacket" is tempting me too, but I didn't even order that one....... too much of a scaredy cat.....

PS Personal note: Joelle, look, I'm wearing it!!!!!! How about you???

Addenda on November 25th : Since I posted this article, I did buy Tree jacket, and I've started a new Juliet this time for my daughter in size XS and I will try to do long sleeves on it..... I began last night and am almost finished with the top part....

I do plan to do Wicked and Tree Jacket, I've started shopping around for yarn and doing gauge swatches.... More soon on this habit I've gotten into.....
